It was early October of 2023.

Sanchit had just arrived in sunny Honolulu, Hawaii to attend a medical conference that week. The first evening in his new surroundings, he attended a welcome dinner where he would be introduced to a fellow conference attendee, Rayna. The striking beauty managed to immediately disarm him with the brightest smile in the room. Sanchit was captivated. They discovered that they were fellow Ohio dwellers, Sanchit from Cleveland and Rayna from Toledo. As they conversed, Rayna's warmth and reserved charm made such an impression on Sanchit that time effectively escaped him. From Rayna's perspective, Sanchit's attentive nature and easy style drew her in. On their third night in Hawaii, the two would share their first date. They spent hours bonding over food, travel, and a deep love for their families. Both recall feeling a distinct safety in each other's presence - a freedom to be authentic and unguarded.

Fast forward to 1 year later, exactly 365 days from the day they first met: Just before hopping into the basket of a hot air balloon to journey high above the Albuquerque landscape, Sanchit asked Rayna to be his wife.

Little did Rayna know when she accepted his proposal, Sanchit had been planning an elaborate engagement party for the following week (with the help of both their families). When October 12 arrived, bright and full of autumn color, I met up with the two of them to take some engagement portraits around the Ann Arbor area. We explored the architectural gems of the U of M campus, and made a few stops to enjoy the bright foliage. But the last stop on our list was to be the most exciting. Here's a little peek at how the rest of the day unfolded.
